M.O.M. Hooks

Ronn has adapted a hook profile to fill the void for presentation M.O.M. Patterns in a Japanned or Bronze finish. The hooks feature a straight marked shank and represent the hand made hooks of the day. The profile fits the style perfectly with a large gape and a short shank.

Mary Orvis Marbury, Daughter of Charles Orvis (founder of the company of the same name) collected and published fly information from fly anglers around the country in the late 1800's. The book, Favorite Flies and Their Histories became a favorite and went through 9 printings. The favorites collected were Trout, Bass and Salmon patterns of the day and the style is often refered to by Mary's initials or M.O.M. Flies. Mary further popularized these patterns by putting them together in display panels for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. These panels are preserved in the Manchester Vermont, American Museum of Fly Fishing . The majority of the hooks that these flies were tied on were blind eye with gut loops or tippets and are no longer available except through old hook collections.
