Book Review

Mike Radencich's "Classic Salmon Fly Materials"

Mention the name Mike Radencich to a Salmon Fly Tyer and he/she will think of Mike’s 1997 book, “Tying the Classic Salmon Fly” which has long been regarded as one of, if not, the best book for learning to tie classic salmon flies.

Well, Mike has just released a new book, “Classic Salmon Fly Materials”. After reading it from cover to cover, I am sure both of these books will become indispensable to not only new tyers wanting to lean to tie fully dressed flies but even those already tying them. This second book deals with many of the materials we tyers use but even more importantly, the techniques needed to use them. Mike presents his methods for tying flies and even does one step by step from start to finish. Along the way, he uses large highly detailed photos and illustrations to show much of the information that has typically been left out of books that have frustrated new tyers for generations. Little gems of knowledge to be sure but things that are essential for creating well tied flies.

I highly recommend this book to anyone even just interested in fully dressed flies but particularly to those wanting to learn.

My good friend, John McLain is selling Mike’s book on his website. So, for more details go here to see them. John McLains site
