Dyed Bronze Mallard and Matching Spey feathers.
This bronze Mallard is simply the best there is. I wash and dye it myself and then match the pairs with Spey wings and roofing for atlantic salmon flies. Given the time it takes to do this, I make very little on these but want to provide fellow Tyers with these since it is so hard to come by in shops. These feathers were from random packages so will be typical of what you'll get. There are eight pairs in each package with jumbo to small so every size fly can be tied with them.
Golden Pheasant Crests
There is wide variety of size, shape, colour and quality of GP heads. I wash and dry them in their natural shapes and then grade them into four categories rather than just selling them all as equals. The following photos show representative samples of each of the grades.
#1 The top grade ($11) are the best I have. Typically they have no damage and are large, well coloured and generally have the best shapes of feathers most of which will cascade well.
#2 The next grade ($8) will also be great heads but may have a feather or two with stress or damage or slightly fewer feathers than the top grade. Usually it is the latter. Great heads.
#3 ($5) These are also very good heads, many of which will cascade well. They may have fewer feathers slightly dull colour and/or more marginally usable feathers but the good ones are usually as good as the higher grades.
#4 ($3) These have fewer feathers, more damage or dull colour but are great for fishing flies.
The heads that don't make it in these grades are tossed in the trash.
Happy Trails!
